What are the damages for loss of enjoyment of life, loss of amenities, and reduced life expectancy?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Huang v Canadian National Railway Company, 2018 BCSC 1235 (CanLII):

The purpose of non-pecuniary damages is to compensate a plaintiff for the pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of amenities, and in cases such as this one, a reduction in life expectancy, caused by the defendant’s negligence. The law requires the compensation to be fair and reasonable to both parties. Fairness is measured against awards made in comparable cases although they only provide a rough guide, recognizing that each case is unique and fact-driven: Trites v. Penner, 2010 BCSC 882.
