What is the test for entitlement to needs-based support?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from McCallum v. McCallum, 2015 BCSC 837 (CanLII):

Entitlement to needs-based support does not necessitate an award that meets the total amount of the need. A court is entitled to grant an award for a portion of the spouse’s need, whether viewed in terms of periodic amount or duration: Bracklow v. Bracklow (1999), 1999 CanLII 715 (SCC), 44 R.F.L. (4th) 1 (S.C.C.) at para. 54.
