Is equalization of standards of living a factor when determining maintenance?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Collins v. De Backer, 1997 CanLII 1166 (BC SC):

The equalization of standards of living is one factor to take into account when assessing whether a maintenance order should be made. However, this is only one consideration. Further, in the language of Moge v. Moge, supra, at 387, the decision speaks to alleviating the disadvantaged spouse. The Respondent, as I have already found, was not disadvantaged as a result of this marriage breakdown.
