Can a spouse's efforts to become self-sufficient be imputed in a claim for income imputed if the recipient spouse has failed to make efforts to be selfsufficient?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Bryant v. Gordon, 2007 BCSC 946 (CanLII):

In McEachern v. McEachern, 2006 BCCA 508, Prowse J.A. found, where the efforts of the recipient spouse to become self-sufficient were wanting, that income could be imputed (at ¶41).

In Redpath v. Redpath, 2006 BCCA 338, it was held that an order of spousal support which falls substantially above or below the range suggested in the Spousal Support Guidelines could give rise to an error in law unless a reasonable explanation was provided for the discrepancy. This case involved an initial determination of spousal support.
