What is the test for proving that pain will continue to occur long beyond the normal recovery period?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Hamilton v. Luk, 1999 CanLII 5586 (BC SC):

As stated in Maslen v. Rubinstein there must be evidence of a convincing nature to overcome the improbability that the pain will continue in the absence of objective symptoms well beyond the normal recovery period. But the plaintiff's own evidence, if consistent with the surrounding circumstances, may nevertheless suffice for the purpose.
