In what circumstances will a judge order that a judgment against three individuals be paid in instalments?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from McLeod v. Williams, 1998 CanLII 4615 (BC SC):

In MacMillan v. Progressive Mill Supplies Ltd., [1986] B.C.J. No. 1161, the respondents were three individuals seeking an order that the judgment against them be paid by instalments. Cowan J. denied the application holding that special circumstances had not been demonstrated. He noted that the asset position of the three respondents was such that an instalment order was unwarranted.
