What is the test for assessing past lost earnings and future earning capacity?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Lewis v Wang, 2020 BCSC 16 (CanLII):

In assessing past lost earnings (as well as lost future earning capacity), it is useful to keep in mind that a plaintiff needs only to show a real and substantial possibility of the loss claimed rather than proving the loss on the balance of probabilities. See Gao v. Dietrich, 2018 BCCA 372, at paras. 34 – 40.
