While acknowledging that there was substantial evidence he fired a gun at the victim, he nonetheless contends there was insufficient evidence of malice. (See Pen. Code, 188.)1 We conclude otherwise. "[T]he very act of firing a weapon ' "in a manner that could have inflicted a mortal wound " ' is sufficient to support an inference of intent to kill. [Citation.]" (People v. Smith (2005) 37 Cal.4th 733, 742, italics added.)
