Is there any miscarriage of justice by allowing uniformed police officers to attend a trial?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from The PEOPLE v. HOWARD St., A120412, No. 152819 (Cal. App. 2010):

This record demonstrates no such miscarriage of justice. People v. Cummings (1993) 4 Cal.4th 1233 is on point. The defendant, charged with the capital murder of a police officer in the performance of his duties, objected to the presence of numerous uniformed officers among the spectators at trial. (Id. at pp. 1255, 1298.) The court expressed doubt that the officers' presence would unduly influence the jury, but suggested that officers attending the trial henceforth wear civilian clothes and invited the defense to renew the objection were the situation to recur. (Id. at p.1298.)
