Is there any case law allowing an employer to defend an employee against an employee in a separate action?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from Johnson v. Santos, 148 Cal.App.3d 566, 196 Cal.Rptr. 145 (Cal. App. 1983):

Sanfax noted that "the statutes which prescribe employee and employer actions appear to have as one objective the goal of reducing the likelihood that a third party will be forced to defend more than one action." (County of San Diego v. Sanfax, supra, 19 Cal.3d at p. 881, 140 Cal.Rptr. 638, 568 P.2d 363.)
