Is interim support intended to provide income from time to time?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Johnston v. Johnston, 2004 CanLII 42945 (ON SC):

I agree with Granger J.’s decision in Cafik v. Cafik, supra, that interim support is intended to provide a spouse with income from the time of the support order to the time of the trial. Determining whether either party suffered economic disadvantage, as a result of the marriage or its breakdown, should be left to the trial judge. Both spouses have relocated and several adjustments to their budgets make it difficult to calculate, accurately, the means or needs of the parties.
