Is an affidavit containing hearsay sufficient to warrant a search warrant?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Johnson, B280365 (Cal. App. 2018):

5. The high court has provided the following examples: A statement that the affiant believes that illegal liquor will be found in a specific location was insufficient to show probable cause for a search warrant. (Illinois v. Gates (1983) 462 U.S. 213, 239.) A statement that officers received reliable information from a credible source also was insufficient. (Ibid.) But, an affidavit containing hearsay may be sufficient if it reveals why the information should be credited. (Id. at pp. 241-242.)
