Is a restitution order enforceable after a defendant is no longer on probation?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Czaja, E045826 (Cal. App. 6/9/2009), E045826. (Cal. App. 2009):

Penal Code section 1202.4, subdivision (b), directs trial courts to impose a separate and additional restitution fine in every case where a person is convicted of a crime. Any portion of a restitution order that remains unsatisfied after a defendant is no longer on probation remains enforceable by the victim. (Pen. Code, 1202.4, subd. (m).) Accordingly, a restitution fine survives a revocation of probation. (People v. Chambers (1998) 65 Cal.App.4th 819, 822-823; People v. Kleinman (2004) 123 Cal.App.4th 1476, 1481.)
