Is a prosecutor misconduct during closing argument when he accused defense counsel of misleading the jury?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Basurto, F051594 (Cal. App. 10/31/2007), F051594 (Cal. App. 2007):

Basurto claims the prosecutor committed misconduct during closing argument when he accused defense counsel of misleading the jury and made other comments impugning defense counsel's integrity. Again, Basurto has waived appellate review of this issue by failing to object in the trial court. (People v. Mayfield (1997) 14 Cal.4th 668, 753.)
