Is a life imprisonment without parole sentence tantamount to a death sentence for an adult?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from In re Wilson, 182 Cal.Rptr.3d 774, 233 Cal.App.4th 544 (Cal. App. 2015):

reasoning that a life imprisonment without parole sentence for a juvenile is tantamount to a death sentence for an adult. (Miller v. Alabama, supra, 567 U.S. , 132 S.Ct. at p. 24632464.) Because the Eighth Amendment when applied to adults requires individualized sentencing prior to the imposition of a death sentence, the Eighth Amendment when applied to juveniles requires individualized sentencing prior to the imposition of a sentence of life imprisonment without parole.
