Is a defendant's prior conviction for perjury invalid because he did not waive his privilege against self-incrimination?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Orozco, 114 Cal.App.3d 435, 170 Cal.Rptr. 604 (Cal. App. 1981):

Defendant contends that his prior conviction for perjury suffered on September 21, 1972, is constitutionally invalid because he did not waive his privilege against self-incrimination. (Boykin v. Alabama, 395 U.S. 238, 243-244, 89 S.Ct. 1709, 1712, 23 L.Ed.2d 274.) This contention is without merit.
