In what circumstances will a court allow a defendant to plead guilty to a charge of false imprisonment?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from The People v. Bledsoe, C062031, No. CRF06630 (Cal. App. 2010):

Defendant relies in part on Combs v. Coyle (6th Cir. 2000) 205 F.3d 269. However, there the defendant told a peace officer to talk to his lawyer, and the prosecutor was allowed to use that statement as substantive evidence of guilt. (Id. at pp. 278-279, 286.) In contrast, defendant's statement in this case that he was finished talking, before he again chose to talk, was not used as evidence of his guilt.
