California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from Peterson v. San Francisco Community College Dist., 205 Cal.Rptr. 842, 36 Cal.3d 799, 685 P.2d 1193 (Cal. 1984):

Having thus established that the defendants owed plaintiff a duty of care, we turn to the question of immunity. (See Davidson v. City of Westminster, supra, 32 Cal.3d at pp. 201-202, 185 Cal.Rptr. 252, 649 P.2d 894.) In her complaint plaintiff alleges that "[d]efendants ... breached these duties and were negligent and careless in that they failed and neglected to take reasonable precautions to protect [her] from violent attacks or to safeguard her security, failed and neglected to employ adequate police personnel to patrol the parking lot and stairway in question ... and that they failed to properly perform or otherwise discharge the duty of protection undertaken and assumed."
