Is there any juristic reason for the wife to reduce the mortgage on the matrimonial home?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Lamantia v. Solarino, 2010 ONSC 2927 (CanLII):

I find that the wife was under no obligation to reduce the mortgage on the matrimonial home without some reasonable expectation of receiving something in return. She was under no obligation – contractual, statutory or otherwise to provide the funds to reduce the mortgage on a home registered to the husband. Accordingly, there is an absence of juristic reason for the enrichment. (See: Peter v. Beblow, supra, at para. 91.)
