What is the test for an equal division of the assets of a husband and wife in a family property dispute?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Yang v. Zhang, 2017 BCSC 524 (CanLII):

Hudyma v. Hudyma, 2010 BCSC 95, concerned a five-year marriage. The family asset in issue was a farm that had been brought into the marriage by the husband. An equal division was not found to be unfair. Prior to the marriage, the wife had been financially independent, but the husband asked her to quit her job to work on the farm. The wife had a child from a previous relationship, and the parties had one child together. It was found the wife contributed substantially to the acquisition, maintenance, and improvement of the farm.
