How will we review a ruling admitting evidence for abuse of discretion?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from M.A v. SUPERIOR COURT of ALAMEDA, A130800, No. 177875-02 (Cal. App. 2011):

Generally, we review a ruling admitting evidence for abuse of discretion, and will not disturb the ruling unless the trial court exercised its discretion in an arbitrary, capricious, or patently absurd manner that resulted in a manifest miscarriage of justice. (See People v. Lewis (2009) 46 Cal.4th 1255, 1286; see also Evid. Code, 353.)
