The following excerpt is from People v. Crew, 3 Cal.Rptr.3d 733, 31 Cal.4th 822, 74 P.3d 820 (Cal. 2003):

In determining the validity of a challenge to a criminal conviction on the ground of insufficient evidence, this court reviews "`the whole record in the light most favorable to the judgment below to determine whether it discloses substantial evidencethat is, evidence which is reasonable, credible, and of solid valuesuch that a reasonable trier of fact could find the defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.' [Citations.] The same standard applies to special circumstance allegations." (People v. Hillhouse (2002) 27 Cal.4th 469, 496, 117 Cal.Rptr.2d 45, 40 P.3d 754.)
