How have we appealed against the conviction and sentencing of a defendant in a sexual assault case?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Rickles, C089370 (Cal. App. 2020):

We appointed counsel to represent defendant on appeal. Counsel filed an opening brief that sets forth the facts of the case and requests this court to review the record and determine whether there are any arguable issues on appeal. (People v. Wende, supra, 25 Cal.3d 436.) Defendant filed a supplemental brief raising numerous grievances about the judicial system and the process by which he was convicted. We will address these in turn.
