How have courts dealt with a petition seeking to reduce the sentence of a convicted burglar to a misdemeanour?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Reed, B296240 (Cal. App. 2020):

In October 2018, the trial court denied a petition defendant filed pursuant to the sentence recall provisions of Proposition 47 (Pen. Code, 1170.18) to reduce his burglary conviction to a misdemeanor. Defendant appealed that order and appellate counsel filed an opening brief raising no issues. After independent examination of the record, we affirmed the trial court's order. (People v. Reed (Aug. 22, 2019, B293861) [nonpub. opn.].)
