Section 17 is now codified, as amended, at 18 U.S.C. 242. See United States v. Price, 383 U.S. 787, 802-03, 86 S.Ct. 1152, 16 L.Ed.2d 267 (1966). The principal amendments include: substitution of the term "willfully subjects" for "shall subject, or cause to be subjected"; a broadening of the protected rights from those enumerated in Section 17 to include "any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States"; and the inclusion of a felony provision where bodily injury results from the violation of the statute.
