As recounted in our prior opinion, defendant was tried and convicted of multiple crimes arising out of an off and on romantic relationship with his ex-girlfriend, including two counts of corporal injury on a cohabitant (Pen. Code, 273.5, subd. (a)counts 1 and 4),1 two counts of false imprisonment by violence ( 236counts 2 and 5), one count of cruelty to animals ( 597, subd.
