Does a pre-sented petition constitute a presentation of a new petition?

Manitoba, Canada

The following excerpt is from Branch v. Branch, 1984 CanLII 3757 (MB QB):

In my view, the petition is "pre- sented" but once, when it is filed and when the proceedings are commenced. An amendment to the original petition does not constitute the presentation of a new petition: Hewitt v. Hewitt et al. (1971), 14 D.L.R.(3d) 174 (On- tario).
