Can a joint tenancy be terminated unilaterally?

Manitoba, Canada

The following excerpt is from Dauk (Executor of) Estate of Corbett v. Estate of Corbett et al., 2015 MBQB 181 (CanLII):

As noted in Hansen Estate v. Hansen, 2012 ONCA 112, 109 O.R. (3d) 241, the course of conduct does not require joint action by the parties to sever the joint tenancy, but that the action resulting in the severance can be unilateral.
