The authorities reveal that the determination of whether a relationship is or is not marriage-like is not an easy task. It is clear that each case is unique to be decided upon its own facts. The court must consider the subjective intentions of the parties and in doing so analyze the objective criteria in the evidence to determine if and to what extent the parties share their lives: Gostlin v. Kergin.
