Is an indefinite employment agreement binding on an indefinite duration?

New Brunswick, Canada

The following excerpt is from Mathew v. Kinek Technologies, 2008 NBQB 371 (CanLII):

It is common ground that absent an express or implied binding agreement to the contrary, an employment agreement of indefinite duration obligates the employer who dismisses an employee without cause to give reasonable notice of termination. See Machtinger v. HOJ Industries Ltd., 1992 CanLII 102 (SCC), [1992] 1 S.C.R. 986 (S.C.C.).
