Can a child waive his right to maintenance and the custodial parent do the same?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from C.C.F. v. D.W.L., 2010 BCSC 184 (CanLII):

Earle v. Earle says that a child cannot waive his or her right to maintenance and the custodial parent cannot waive it for the child. Very often the custodial parent does not have the financial resources to bring enforcement proceedings and in my view that applies to the plaintiff here.
