What is the effect of a driving prohibition on an offender?

Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

The following excerpt is from R. v Luker, 2019 CanLII 81580 (NL PC):

The driving prohibition and the order as to when an offender can apply to be enrolled in alcohol ignition interlock device program is a consequence of conviction and it forms part of the arsenal of sanctions to which an accused may be liable in respect of a particular offence. Thus, in imposing a driving prohibition, the principles of sentencing apply in setting its length (see R v. Cherrington, 2015 ABQB 517, and section 320.22 of the Criminal Code).
