Does the minute entry rule apply in cases where the original sentence consists of a fine only?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Karaman, 14 Cal.Rptr.2d 801, 4 Cal.4th 335, 842 P.2d 100 (Cal. 1992):

17 With respect to the need for finality, retention of the minute-entry rule is appropriate in cases in which the original sentence consists of a fine only (e.g., People v. McAllister, supra, 15 Cal.2d 519, 520-521, 524, 102 P.2d 1072; In re Garrity, supra, 97 Cal.App. 372, 375, 275 P. 480) and thus some act is required to fix the point of expiration of the trial court's jurisdiction to modify the sentence.
