Does the exclusionary rule apply to suppress gun evidence obtained during a search?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Mendoza, E061566 (Cal. App. 2015):

6. Defendant contends we should apply the exclusionary rule and suppress the gun evidence deputies obtained in the search. (See Davis v. United States (2011) ___ U.S. ___ [131 S. Ct. 2419, 2426].) However, the exclusionary rule does not apply because we conclude the search was lawful and did not violate defendant's Fourth Amendment rights.
