Does the biological father of a child who was adopted by his ex-wife have to provide notice of the adoption proceedings to his biological father?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from Baby Girl M., In re, 207 Cal.Rptr. 309, 37 Cal.3d 65, 688 P.2d 918 (Cal. 1984):

Similarly, in Lehr v. Robertson (June 27, 1983) 463 U.S. 248, 103 S.Ct. 2985, 77 L.Ed.2d 614, 10 the mother remarried and the new husband sought to adopt. The biological father was not given notice of the adoption proceedings because he had not strictly complied with New York law by filing a claim with the putative father registry. Again, a statutory method of establishing a parent-child relationship was available but he took no action to utilize it.
