The following excerpt is from People v. Navarro, C063940 (Cal. App. 2012):
2. We reject defendant's claim that the abuse of discretion standard does not apply in the present case. Defendant argues we "should not defer to the trial court's 'good cause' determination, because it was the wrong determination to have been made and the wrong time to have made it." As noted, we reject defendant's strained interpretation of Code of Civil Procedure section 237; therefore, the court correctly determined whether defendant established a prima facie showing of good cause. We apply the abuse of discretion standard to the court's ruling. (Townsel v. Superior Court (1999) 20 Cal.4th 1084, 1097.)
