Does section 667(a) enhancements to the Three Strikes sentence violate section 654 of the California Criminal Code?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Wynder, 51 Cal.App.4th 1062, 59 Cal.Rptr.2d 557 (Cal. App. 1996):

Section 654 provides in pertinent part that "[a]n act or omission which is made punishable in different ways by different provisions of this code may be punished under either of such provisions, but in no case can it be punished under more than one...." The cases are clear, however, that adding 667(a) enhancements to a Three Strikes sentence does not violate the proscription of section 654. (See People v. Nelson, supra, 42 Cal.App.4th
