Does a search warrant need to name defendant in the search warrant?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Skeen, C082926 (Cal. App. 2018):

on the area to be searched, the thing to be seized or the person to be arrested. [Citations.] The present warrant restricts search to designated places and seizure to designated articles." (Williams v. Justice Court (1964) 230 Cal.App.2d 87, 101.) The fact that defendant was not named in the warrant is not dispositive. (See ibid. ["[A] warrant addressed to the search of a house or other place need not name the owner or custodian of the place or of the articles to be seized"].) Thus, defendant has not demonstrated error.
