Does a final judgment need to be entered to allow the appeal to proceed?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from Clean Battery Recycling, Inc. v. Oy, A148862 (Cal. App. 2017):

judgment has yet to be entered.11 If final judgment had not been entered, we would have no jurisdiction over the appeal. (See Rubin v. Western Mutual Ins. Co. (1999) 71 Cal.App.4th 1539, 1544, 1548.) Because final judgment has been entered, we have jurisdiction to consider Plaintiffs' argument that the judgment was entered erroneously.
