The question of divisibility is related to the question of causation. If an injury is divisible, the defendant is only responsible for the portion of the injury he or she caused. If an injury is indivisible, each defendant is jointly liable for all of the injury (Athey v. Leonati, 1996 CanLII 183 (SCC), [1996] 3 S.C.R. 458 at paras. 24 and 25).
