Is long-term spousal support appropriate regardless of the self-sufficiency of the disadvantaged spouse?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from N.L.R. v P.B.R, 2018 BCSC 1647 (CanLII):

The Court in Morigeau, at para. 37, relied on authority which affirmed that long-term compensatory support is appropriate regardless of the self-sufficiency of the disadvantaged spouse, particularly where spousal support is designed to compensate the mother for the long-term impact of the marriage on her career advancement and earning capacity, and even where the spouse claiming support has received a degree of self-sufficiency: see Tedham at paras. 58-60 and Allaire v. Allaire (2003), 121 A.C.W.S. (3d) 504 at para. 22.
