How much time has been spent by opposing counsel on a plaintiff's claim?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Gardiner v MacDonald, 2016 ONSC 2770 (CanLII):

However, when parties place different values on the claim, there may be a significant discrepancy between the time spent by opposing counsel on a case. In these situations, considering the time spent by the defendant’s counsel may be of little or no assistance in determining the proper fees that should be fixed for the plaintiff’s costs (See e.g. Gardner v. Hann, 2012 ONSC 2006 (CanLII), at para. 42).
