Damages for non-pecuniary loss compensate for pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life and loss of amenities. Determining the amount to award requires consideration of a variety of factors and the underlying ameliorative purpose must be borne in mind: Stapley v. Hejslet, 2006 BCCA 34, at paras. 45 and 46.
