What is the value of a plaintiff’s capacity to earn at the time of a motor vehicle accident?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Westergaard v MacLean, 2017 BCSC 772 (CanLII):

The plaintiff is entitled to compensation based on what she would have, not could have, earned but for the injuries caused by the accidents: see Munoz v. Singh, 2014 BCSC 567. In general, the value of the plaintiff’s capacity to earn is equivalent to the value of the earnings she would have received, in the past or the future, had the tort not been committed (Kallstrom v. Yip, 2016 BCSC 829 at para. 389).
