Does the wife have to continue to seek spousal support after the death of her husband?

Manitoba, Canada

The following excerpt is from Kalawarny Estate v. Fife, 2016 MBQB 146 (CanLII):

Similarly, in Coddington v. Coddington, 2002 BCSC 1734, [2002] B.C.J. No. 2881, the wife sought spousal support and other relief at trial. Shortly after the court reserved its decision, the wife died, and her counsel withdrew the support claim. In his decision, Halfyard J. expresses that even if the wife had demonstrated entitlement to support, her support claim abated at the time of her death.
