Generally, to establish “cause in fact”, a plaintiff is required to prove that “but for” the subject defendant’s breach of the applicable standard of care, the plaintiff’s losses would not have occurred: Clements v. Clements, 2012 SCC 32, [2012] 2 S.C.R. 181, at para. 46.
