In what circumstances will a plaintiff bring a class action?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Parsons v. Coast Capital Savings Credit Union, 2006 BCSC 552 (CanLII):

Citing the decision of Madam Justice Gerow in Reid v. Ford Motor Co., counsel for the plaintiff says that this also is a situation where a class action will avoid duplication of fact finding or legal analysis. That the resolution of the common issues is necessary to the resolution of each Class member’s claim and each issue is a substantial ingredient of each Class member’s claim. Proceeding by way of a class action will move the litigation forward.
