Is education an "other cause" which prevents a child from withdrawing from parental charge or obtaining the necessaries of life?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from J.M.B. v. A.C.B., 2006 ABCA 150 (CanLII):

The case law is well settled that the pursuit of education can be an “other cause” which prevents a child from withdrawing from parental charge or obtaining the necessaries of life: Jackson v. Jackson, 1972 CanLII 141 (SCC), [1973] S.C.R. 205. The principles of child support and the Guidelines promote a needs-based approach. The objectives emphasize financial support to meet a child’s lack of economic independence.
