Is hearsay evidence admissible in a child protection case?

Prince Edward Island, Canada

The following excerpt is from DCP v. A.D.D., J.D. and B.J.T., 2020 PESC 9 (CanLII):

In DCP v. A.D.D. and J.D., 2018 PESC 16 Matheson J. reviewed the law of hearsay evidence in child protection matters. Matheson J. dealt with the new provisions of the Act. She concluded that certain pieces of evidence, though hearsay, were admissible under subsections 3(a) and (d). I agree with her review of the law and I adopt her reasoning and conclusions.
