For example, while Canada will generally cooperate with foreign jurisdictions by extraditing individuals charged with criminal offences to allow them to face trial in the country where the offence occurred (assuming the existence of an extradition treaty with the country in question), it will not do so if the individual faces the death penalty: United States v. Burns, 2001 SCC 7, [2001] 1 S.C.R. 283.
